20th Annual For only the second time to date, a non-t-shirt shirt was used. This time, it was a knit polo shirt, with stitched art on the left front. Under the belly of a man who's enjoyed a few beers, it reads "summer o' fun 2003/party middle age stype/Lake Tulloch, CA." All of the shrits were women's (indicated by the reversed buttons); no one knows why.
Lake of Lunacy The 2002 planners followed through on what Edvard Munch surely must have wanted for his 1893 masterpiece--for it to be put on a t-shirt.
Yacki Hacki Wicki Wacki. Woo 2 This sequel theme took the text of years before and added a Hawaiian flower print across the front. With the record for the longest theme name--by far--not much else would fit.
Reach the Beach The year 2000 represents a new direction in SOF T-shirt design--a sweatshirt! Inspired by the cooler weather of a beach in Aptos...in October...at night... the planners opted for warmer wear. The art is simple: footprints in the sand, with the theme and location, but intentionally leaving out the year, so that in 10 years it won't be as embarrassing to wear something from way back at the turn of the century.

Rapid Intoxication The shirt for SOF 1999 has perhaps the most extensive original artwork to date. The art was created by Erika's dad, clearly based on Mark's vision of what SOF aims to be. Two rafters reach for a beer, mid-rapid, begging the question, does art imitate life, or does life imitate art? In this case, there is an answer.

Autumnal Equinox SOF 1998 took place over the weekend of the autumnal equinox, which provided the theme for the year's shirt. Sun and moon, in equal position, look over the houseboater's on New Melones Lake. It should be said that they look over the houseboaters with a mixture of shame, disgust and a little curiosity. Little known fact: the sun is a scanned picture of Pete's face, and the moon, Tom's face. Pete Wilkinson
Tropical Holiday The 1997 shirt, like the 1994 shirt, is ceneterd with the outline of the year's lake: in this case, Lake Oroville. A sailboater, water shier and jet skier surround the lake, as they did on the actual trip. On the front of the shirt, a martini glass identified the shirt as belonging to SOF 1997.

Bear Essentials Again borrowing its theme from its location, the anatomy of a bear is featured on the shirt for the trip to Bear Reservoir. From trophy (head) to rump, the bear is disected in a way that Summer o' Fun rarely is. The front of the shirt is imprinted with a bear claw.

A State of Mind This shirt features a sun framing the "Seal of the Annual Gathering of Summer o' Fun", a stately symbol which plays the theme. DiVinci's Man is holding forks (in reference to Peter's "kitchen incident") and wine grapes. Below is the formula: [H2O + CH3CH2OH]t - Gm1m2/r = SOF ( water and alchohol by time less gravity is SOF). The front of the shirt has a small sun with the dates and location of SOF 1995. Matt Lord

Maximum Wetness This shirt highlights dozens of names and favorite SOF quotes ("We're out of beer...I'm very disappointed"), all within the outline of Lake Shasta, the location for SOF 1994. The front of the shirt has a smaller version of the lake with dates and location. Peter Birch
10th Annual The 10th annual SOF, and the 5th shirt, is an eyechart, SOF style. The full text, with spaces added, reads, "SUMMER O FUN X LAKE OROVILLE IF YOU CAN READ THIS YOU NEED ANOTHER BEER."

SOF Olympics An Olympic year, 1992's SOF shirts came in three colors--blue, green and red--to divide the group into three competative teams. The Olympic rings are surounded by the theme of the year. Tom McKevitt

Wicki Wacki Woo Green on white, this simple shirt contained only text. It does, however, reveal a theme name which is longer than we commonly remember: "Yacki Hacki Wicki Wacki Woo Weekend." Jeff Zerwekh

(Summer of Contraception)

The second SOF shirt was a make-your-own tie dye shirt. The simple lettering, naming the year but not the theme, was in perfect contrast with the bright colors of the tie dye.

The Sequel In 1989, after five years of trips, and one year after officially naming the trip "Summer o' Fun," the first shirt was created. The shirt theme would become classic: a houseboat on a lake under a sun, and on the top (in its original spelling), the Summer o' Fun banner. Tad Leckman
